National Healthcare Decision Day Urges Americans to Make Their Wishes Known April 16

Rothamel Bratton, along with other national, state and community organizations, are leading a massive effort to highlight the importance of advance healthcare decision-making—an effort that has culminated in the formal designation of April 16 as National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD).

When is the right time to name someone to speak for you in case of serious illness?

A: WHEN YOU’RE IN GOOD HEALTH
B: WHEN YOU’RE IN A COMA

The answer, of course, is “A”. The problem is we’re reluctant to talk about our medical wishes in case of serious illness or end of life.

National Healthcare Decisions Day exists to educate the public & medical providers about the importance of planning as it relates to health care decision making. It encourages people to express their wishes regarding healthcare and for providers and facilities to respect those wishes.  An Advanced Directive can be a proxy directive (appointing a Health Care Power of Attorney) and/or an instructive directive (Living Will).

As a participating organization, Rothamel Bratton is providing information and tools for the public to talk about their wishes with family, friends and healthcare providers, and execute written advance directives (healthcare power of attorney and living will) in accordance with NJ and PA state laws.

Specifically, on April 16, from 8:30am to 5:00pm we are welcoming the public throughout the day at our Hadddonfield, NJ office with free information about advance care planning and advance directive forms.
